Blaze The Trail

I’ve often heard from several motivational speakers that we should Blaze The Trail For Others To Follow” but what did that mean? The word “blaze” used in this sentence is a verb meaning to make known publicly; spread the news of; or to proclaim. How are we to Proclaim, Spread The News, Make Known Publicly The Trail For Others To Follow?

Ephesians 2:10 (NIV) says “For we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, WHICH GOD PREPARED IN ADVANCE FOR US TO DO” The trail has been set. Jesus Christ told us in Matthew 28:19-20 (NIV) to “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always to the very end of the age”.

In one sense, blazing the trail should be making the way for others to follow. A blaze is a fire. The way should be so bright that others would not have any difficulties following. Blazing the trail means you have taken the lead. No one else has done what you are attempting to do. After you complete your mission, the way will be set for others to follow.

In another sense, the work has been prepared, the way has been made. Jesus Christ is the Trailblazer. Since God prepared the work in advance for us to do the only thing that is left is for us to spread the news or make known publicly the works of Jesus Christ.

You ask what does this have to do with vision and goals? Well who gave you that vision? Since God gave it to you then it is up to you to complete it. God gave it to you meaning he has already prepared the works in advance. God did not intend for you to stay in your comfort zone with what he has given you. He wants you to go and make disciples. What is a disciple? A disciple is a person who follows the teachings of another whom he accepts as a leader. In this sense you have become the trailblazer.

Take at look at the vision God has given you. If your vision is only about getting rich then you are on the wrong track. God’s vision would include helping others. He has made the way for you to follow so others could follow you. Why would Jesus tell us to Go and make disciples if he did not want others to follow?

Whatever your occupation, get out of the comfort zone. For 1997 become one of God’s trailblazers. Set your trail on fire. Proclaim the good news of Jesus Christ. As you set out to proclaim the message about Jesus Christ, don’t be surprised to see others following in your footsteps.

Have you found yourself getting easily frustrated because things don’t appear to be going the way you think they should go? Get on the right track. Ask God to give you a bigger picture of the vision He has placed inside of you. He will show you your purpose. You will discover that Blazing the Trail For Others To Follow is just another way of saying “Go ye therefore and make disciples.”

In 1997, be all that God wants you to be. Be a Trailblazer!
